How to view the beautiful Japanese garden in Den Haag in fall and spring

One of the small joys of living in a place year-round is that you get to experience your home city in each season.  Although seasons in the Netherlands are far more mild than those of my home country, I still have a huge soft spot for fall and spring here in the Netherlands.  One of the best places to ring in spring and fall is at the Japanese garden in Den Haag.  I’ll be including advice for visiting the Japanese garden in both seasons, including getting to Clingendael.

Where to eat in the Hague by a local: Affordable restaurants in Den Haag

Enough people have visited me in the Hague that I felt that it was time to put together a little eating guide with my favorite restaurants in the Hague.  I prioritize authentic and good food over a fancy atmosphere.  As a result, I’ve left off some of the many high caliber restaurants in the Hague worth visiting if you’re open to splurging a little.  (I also left off junk food in the Hague!).  I include plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans.

Is it weird that I consider breakfast a very important food group?  Maybe it’s my American upbringing, but I am a huge fan of breakfast and brunch.  This post is about the best brunch/breakfast cafes in the Hague by one very biased American couple living in the Hague.  I hope you get very hungry while reading this as I’m already planning my next brunch for this weekend…. Is there anything more Dutch than herring? This favorite fish is a staple of the Dutch diet, yet many foreigners know little about it.  Ever since moving to the Hague, I was lucky enough to experience Vlaggetjesdag, an amazing yearly celebration of herring season in the Netherlands. I’ll be discussing Vlaggetjesdag, Dutch herring, and the amazing cultural legacy of Hollandse Nieuwe Haring.
